Each one has its own onset time, its own unit of sale and its own learning curve. If you are not sure where to start, flower and low-dose edibles are the two most common first purchases — and our staff are happy to talk it through at the counter.

How to choose

The most useful way to narrow things down is by how fast you want it to work, and how long you want it to last.

1–10 min · 1–3 hrs

Fast on, fast off

Flower, pre-rolls, vapes and concentrates are inhaled. That quick feedback makes them the easiest products to dose by feel — take a little, wait, decide.

30 min–2 hrs · 4–8 hrs

Slow on, long lasting

Edibles and swallowed tinctures go through your digestive system. Take one dose, wait two full hours, and do not redose inside that window.

No intoxication

No high at all

Topicals are applied to the skin and are not intoxicating. Transdermal patches are the exception — treat those as an ingested product.

New to this?

Start with what to expect on your first dispensary visit, then the best products for beginners. If edibles are where you are heading, read the dosing guide first — it is the single most useful thing on this site for avoiding an uncomfortable evening.

Massachusetts purchase limits

Adults 21 and over may possess up to one ounce of cannabis in public, of which no more than five grams may be concentrate, and up to ten ounces at home. Massachusetts caps an edible at 5.5mg THC per serving, and a package at 20 servings or 110mg total. Bring a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID — we check every time, for everyone.
