Step 1 — Arrival and Check-In

When you pull up to Hometown Harvest at 243 Main Street in Athol, the first thing you'll notice is that we have free, convenient parking right at the store. No hunting for a spot, no parking garages, no meters. Just pull in and walk up to the front door.

When you enter, you'll step into a lobby area. Think of it like the check-in area at a doctor's office, but friendlier and faster. A staff member will greet you and ask to see your ID. They'll verify your age — you must be 21 or older — and once you're confirmed, you'll be welcomed onto the sales floor.

This ID check happens every single time you visit, even if the staff recognizes you. It's a Massachusetts law, and every licensed dispensary follows it. There's nothing personal about it — it's just part of the process, and it takes about ten seconds.

Here's something important: don't be embarrassed to ask questions. Budtenders hear "this is my first time" dozens of times a day. They love helping new customers. Step 4 — Checkout

Once you've made your selection, you'll head to the checkout counter. This part is quick and straightforward.

Payment: You can pay with cash or debit card. Credit cards are not accepted at any cannabis dispensary in the country — this is a federal regulation, not a store policy. If you need cash, we have an ATM on-site at Hometown Harvest.

Packaging: All products will be placed in sealed, opaque exit packaging before you leave the store. This is required by Massachusetts law. The packaging is plain and discreet — there are no bright logos or obvious cannabis branding on the outside of your exit bag.

Receipt: You'll receive a receipt showing exactly what you purchased, the quantities, THC/CBD content, and the total price including tax. Massachusetts applies a state excise tax, a sales tax, and a possible local tax to cannabis purchases, so the total will be slightly higher than the listed shelf price. Your budtender or cashier can explain the tax breakdown if you're curious.

Purchase limits: Massachusetts law limits recreational purchases to one ounce (28 grams) of cannabis flower or up to 5 grams of concentrate per transaction. For edibles, the limit is 500mg of THC. These limits are per visit, and first-time buyers typically don't come anywhere close to them.

Once you've found what you want, you add it to your cart, place the order, and select a pickup time. When you arrive at Hometown Harvest, you check in with your ID (still required), let the staff know you have an online order, and your products are brought out to you — already packaged and ready to go.

The entire in-store portion takes about five minutes. For first-timers who feel more comfortable doing their research ahead of time, online ordering is an excellent option. You get all the benefits of our full product selection without any of the pressure of making decisions on the spot.

Can I return cannabis products?

No. Under Massachusetts law, all cannabis sales are final. Once a product has been purchased, it cannot be returned or exchanged. This is why we encourage you to start small on your first visit — try a single item or a small quantity, see how you like it, and come back for more once you know what you enjoy.

What if I don't know what I want?

That's completely fine and extremely common. This is exactly what our budtenders are here for. Just walk in, let them know it's your first time, and they'll guide you through the options based on your preferences, comfort level, and goals. Is the whole experience discreet?

Yes. Your products are placed in plain, sealed exit packaging with no visible cannabis branding on the outside. From the parking lot, our store looks like any other Main Street business. And once you leave, nobody passing you on the sidewalk would have any idea what you just purchased.

How do I know what dose to take?

Your budtender will walk you through dosing based on the product type you choose. The general advice for first-timers is start low and go slow. For edibles, that means 2.5mg to 5mg of THC.
